The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award
Among the variety of events and contests of “Monterey Car Week” (August 15-21, 2016 / Monterey, California) such as the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance Presented by Rolex, Third Annual “AIM for the Cures” Dinner at Pebble Beach, Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Gordon McCall’s Motorworks Revival 2016 and many others, there was a brand new freshly established award The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award. In its inaugural year, this award has brought together six best vehicles chosen from the world’s superior automobiles from top international contest events! Such a significant event was aimed to find out the most exceptional classic automobile on the planet.
So, in total there were six applicants for the title of BEST OF THE BEST (including the winner): Talbot Lago T150 C SS (1937), Mercedes 60HP Simplex (1903), Cord L29 Brooks Stevens Speedster (1930), Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A S Sport Cabriolet ( 1932), Ferrari 166 P / 206 SP Dino 0834 (1965) and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale (1968). Each of the iconic cars had won in a particular major competition of elegance.
The winner was determined by the forces of the jury consisted of 24 people – motorcar experts, designers and prominent celebrities. Among them there were Flavio Manzoni (automobile designer worked with Ferrari, Volkswagen and Lancia), Peter Brock (worked with Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe and Corvette Sting Ray), Henry Ford III (the great-great grandson of Henry Ford – Ford Motor founder), Ralph Lauren (world fashion tycoon), Nick Mason (former drummer of Pink Floyd) and others. Thus, the title of the best classic car in the world was given to Talbot-Lago T150C SS (1937). The most exclusive car of 2016 belongs to The Peter Mullin Automotive Museum Foundation – a personal car collection of Peter W. Mullin – famous businessman and philanthropist.
Talbot-Lago T150C SS Goutte d’Eau is a worthy victory among the similar and different at the same time exclusive and stylish brothers-in-shop. Such elegance causes sighs of adoring audience, and shudder of the driver while starting the engine. I love sports cars, where speed and modern design are of great importance, although the feeling that I have for such luxury cars is completely different, and it is so difficult to express it in words. Imagine how incredible it would be to see such an event with your own eyes!
