Jamala – the winner of Eurovision 2016

JamalaSuch a momentous event in the world of music as the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was just completed in Stockholm! The annual international TV song competition was held at the stage of Stockholm Globe Arena. It was a Grand Final of the contest in which 26 European countries and Australia competed for the title of winner of the year.

Several minutes ago we’ve seen the radiant smile of the Ukrainian singer Jamala – the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden. 32-year-old opera and jazz singer has introduced the song “1944” on English-Crimean Tatar language.

“This song is about the history of our country, in particular, about the tragedy of the Crimean Tatars, who were repressed. Despite its name, which sends us back to the distant 1944, the song tells us to remember the past in order not to repeat the mistakes in future.”

Due to the events, which Europe is now experiencing, the society considers the song as political. Anyway, the audience burst into applause for the penetrating performance of Jamala, and the singer called people to peace and love with trembling voice and through the tears of excitement and happiness.

Jamala: “If you sing about truth, it can really touch people.”

It should be noted that the voting was conducted in two stages – opinion of the professional jury was summarized with the televoting. Thus, the 1st pace – UkraineJamala “1944”, who has gained 534 points (323 points from viewers and 211 points from the jury), the 2nd placeAustralia – Dami Im “Sound Of Silence” (511 points) and the 3rd place – Russia – Sergey Lazarev “You Are The Only One” (491 points).
